Halal

Halal is an Arabic word that means "permissible." In terms of food, it means food that is permissible according to Islamic law. So when we are talking about halal foods it means particular those foods or ingredients that are allowed to be consumed according to Islamic Sharia law.

Haram

Haram is a Quranic term which means 'prohibited or unlawful'. Haram foods and drinks are absoulutey forbidden for every Muslim. Following are some of the Haram Food, ingredients and animals: 

  • Animals like dog, monkey, languor, tiger, wolf, fox, leopard, panther, cat, bear, hyena.

  •  The birds which use their claws for hunting and cause injury such as hawks, falcon, sparrow hawk, female hawk, vulture.

  •  Rodents that live under the earth such as rat, muskrat, bandicoot, mongoose.

  • Lard: Fat from swine mostly present in the abdominal cavity. 

  • Mono Glycerides: if derived from haram animal source.

  • Pepsin: A strong digestive enzyme mostly from pig stomach.

  • Magnesium Stearate (stearic acid): Used as an active ingredient in medicine tablets. (Haram when derived from animal source).

  • Alcohol, spirits and intoxicants.

  • Blood of any type and blood by-products.

  • Carnivorous animals, birds of prey and land animals that have no external ears.

  • Amphibious like frogs, turtles and snakes.

Mushbooh

Mushbooh is also  an Arabic term which means 'suspected'. It simply represents an animal, food or an ingredient  that does not have the Halal or Haram status. Muslims avoid consuming doubtful things.
